• The exploitation project in the pillar of the main shafts, including the protection of the processing plant and shaft
The article presents a procedure for determining the permissible increase in the extent of wall use in the protective pillar of the main shafts due to the protection of construction works of the mechanical processing plant and shaft. The assumptions adopted for the prognosis of the impact of this exploitation on the objects in question and the results of this forecast have been described. It was shown that due to the resistance of the processing plant facilities, it will be possible to increase the scope of exploitation of the designed wall in the pillar. This will allow for additional mining of approx. 140,000 tons of high quality coal from a deposit located near shafts, in favorable geological and mining conditions.
  • Removing the matan from the wall of KHW S.A. KWK "Mysłowice-Wesoła" with the use of a directional drainage hole
The article presents the experience of KWK "Mysłowice-Wesoła" from removing methane from the wall area using a directional drainage hole made in the methane desorption zone. The reasons for using such a solution, its costs and efficiency are presented.
  • Drilling of KWK "Murcki-Staszic" mine workings in conditions of water hazard
The article presents the experience of the "Murcki-Staszic" coal mine in the assessment of water hazard for planned and conducted mining works. In the assessment for works near the water reservoir in the goaf, the possibilities offered by interdisciplinary research should be used. To determine the permissible and safe water pressure in the source of water hazard, hydrogeological and physico-mechanical tests of the rock environment can be applied. The article indicates the evaluation methods used and characterizes the prevention of eradication as well as the way of monitoring the manifestations of water hazard.
  • Social aspects related to commercial storage of carbon dioxide in Poland (Announcement)
The development of industry, and consequently the increase in carbon dioxide emissions, forces us to look for new technologies and ways to reduce its emission to the atmosphere. The article presents the problem of the public acceptance of carbon capture, transport and storage (CCS) as a potential means of reducing its emission in Poland. This problem is crucial for the implementation of large CCS projects. Therefore, information campaigns related to new techniques to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere should be organized in order to make the public aware that such technologies are environmentally safe. The most important issue of such campaigns is reaching the awareness of an ordinary citizen.
  • Evacuation of people trapped in a mine shaft (Announcement)
The work describes the evacuation of people trapped in the shaft after the failure of the winding machine control system or the loss of the main supply voltage, intended for mining shaft hoists with a DC motor. The source of driving the braked hoisting machine is overweight, lowered under the influence of gravity into the shaft to the nearest level, from which further evacuation of people to the surface is carried out with another shaft hoist. The speed of controlled lowering is regulated only by an extraction motor operating in dynamic braking mode.
