The article presents information about the Archives of Measurement and Geological Documentation at the Higher Mining Office. The history of creation, formal and legal basis for its functioning, organization and tasks as well as previous achievements are presented. The final part discusses the methodology for the assessment of hazards from mining excavations, having connection with the surface of underground mining plants located in the areas. The results of the inventories carried out so far are a significant support in the process of providing information about the post-mining area implemented by the archives.

The article presents problems and obstacles occurring during the development and revitalization of areas on which there are liquidated boreholes after exploration or exploitation of crude oil and natural gas. Attention is paid to the need to regulate the rules of conduct regarding the future development of areas after the liquidation of boreholes in order to ensure general safety and the environment, as well as improve the social perception of mining.
