    Along with the increasingly bold entering of computer science into various spheres of our lives, questions about the relationship between man and machine multiply. They echo the echoes of past industrial revolutions, beginning with the eighteenth-century England, in which for the first time used machines in the textile industry, through the nineteenth-century steam engines, to the scientific revolutiion, launched after World War II and lasting until today.

  • Design thinking: improving the efficiency of communicating on OSH (8)
    Internal communication on occupational safety and health (OSH) in an enterprise should focus on employees. It should be effective, well thought out, consistent; it should not involve too much time or too many resources. Therefore, professionals involved in communicating information on OSH to employees keep looking for ways to improve the efficiency of this process. This article presents the principles of design thinking and possible ways of using it to improve the efficiency of communicating on OSH.

    Conflicts at work are a natural phenomenon and occur even in the best of teams. Proper identification of the background of a conflict and selection of appropriate ways to solve it are key factors. A constructive resolution of conflicts should lead to a team's integration and collaboration. This article attempts to theoretically capture the essence, causes and ways of resolving conflicts in either traditional or state-of-the-art manner.
  • New practical tool for assessing hazards in a diverse thermal environment (16)
    A comprehensive method for assessing hazards in a thermal environment has been developed at CIOP-PIB. It is based on European standards. Its adavantage consists in making it possible to evaluate different types of thermal environments (cold, hot, mixed), differently than required by standards, each of which covers one specific type of thermal environment only. This article presents general principles of using this method and a related web app, which is available at CIOP-PIB's website. It also discusses a way of verifying this method with the participation of workesr at cold and hot workstations.

    With the increasing age of workers, the workforce's psycyhophysical characteristics like strength, joint angle range, visual-motor coordination, and body balance are increasingly important for the work performance. The article characterizes parameters describing the psychophysical abilities of employees and procedudres of measuring these parameters. Due to the fact that their values change over time, they may be the basis for guidelines for designing work places for older workers.

    This article outlines the requirements for using emergency lighting systems in accordance with current legislation, including the provisions of standard EN 1838 revised on November 25, 2013. It explains unclear provisions regarding emergency lighting, and discusses discrepancies between the requirements in various legal documents. This article classifies emergency lighting and presents objectives, requirements and sample use of individual types of emergency escape lighting: escape route lighting, open area (anti-panic) lighting and high risk task area lighting. It also discusses general rules for placing emergency escape lighting fittings
