• Electrifying challenges of electromobility
On 22 February 2018, the Act on electromobility of alternative fuels came into force. According to its creators, it is to create conditions for the dissemination and development of electric transport, including public transport in our country. By 2025, up to 1 million electric vehicles are to travel on Polish roads, including 3,000 electric buses. However, many experts are detached from these expectations, especially that there are still no detailed regulations that would allow efficient and safe development of this transport sector. Generally, electromobility is the whole of issues related to electric vehicles powered by electricity (e.g. cars, drones, segwaye), infrastructure used to charge them and their functioning from the legal side. This relatively young market, especially in Poland, is developing very fast. Contributing to this is the growing ecological awareness among many societies and the need to diversify the ways of powering vehicles.
  • Failure of the refrigeration plant (part I) - Disadvantages of a serious refrigeration plant failure
The article describes the procedure used in determining the causes of failure in a fruit cooler, which consisted of a sudden unsealing of the ammonia refrigeration plant. A lot of welding incompatibilities were detected. A separate issue was the dispute over whether an event should be classified as a leak or an explosion. This issue is discussed in more detail in the second part.
  • The use of compo materials in low energy conditions in power industry
The article discusses the effect of liquid nitrogen at -196 Co on selected physical properties of composites based on vinyl ester resins D411 and D470. These tests were made for later use of the composite as one of the elements of the superconducting short circuit current limiter.
  • The influence of the positioning of safety devices on the degree of risk reduction
The article describes in general terms the selection of devices to protect against excessive pressure rise and the impact of the place of their installation on the level of risk reduction and required bandwidth. The work also contains an explanation of the reason for placing the safeguards to dissipate thermal power in the form of saturated steam in the upper part of the devices and the need to supplement them with blockages from the low level. The described study case exposes the problem of exceeding, for certain pressure values, declared by the manufacturer the maximum admissible temperature Ts, safety valves by the discharge of saturated steam, the temperature of which is the pressure function of the Ppo opening of the valve.
