    • IoT and production security (6)
IoT - the Internet of Things - is one of the foundations of industry 4.0. This technology has a significant impact on the improvement of production safety. At the same time, we are still working on increasing cybersecurity, including precisely in the context of the application of IoT.
    • "Safety first" in the era 4.0 (8)
On the one hand, all technological solutions allow users to use much more and much more precisely from the broadly understood technology. Thanks to robots, we can get to places that we had not thought about until recently. Thanks to the Internet, we are able to go anywhere in the world, like the gods of Olympus, see what is going on with our other "earthly friends".
    • Advantages of vision systems in production (12)
Quality control is one of the most important stages of production. This is the basic form of product or service compliance verification. It gives direct information on whether the production or service process is running properly. Continuous technological development generates newer and newer tools to assist in quality control. The growing popularity in this respect is, among others, computer image analysis and processing.

    • Pure benefits, or how to clean hydraulic systems in machines? (14)
There is no need to convince anyone about the necessity to change oils and clean hydraulic systems. The efficiency and service life of the devices largely depend on the correctness of this procedure. It should remove any contamination from both internal and external surfaces of the system. Despite the importance of the process, there is likely to be no area associated with hydraulic and lubrication systems with major differences between theory and practice.

  • Proposals of the European Parliament to regulate workers' right to disconnect
In January 2021, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it called on the European Commission to adopt the directive establishing the so-called the right to disconnect for all workers who use digital tools for professional purposes, the draft of which is annexed to this resolution. The right to disconnect is understood as the exclusion of digital tools for professional purposes outside of working time. The purpose of this article is to discuss the proposed legal framework for the right to disconnect and highlight the challenges that the right to disconnect must face. Analyzing the proposals of the European Parliament, the author points out, inter alia, doubts as to the personal scope of the right to disconnect arising from the proposed directive. The biggest challenges include establishing practical arrangements for disabling digital tools, especially for flexible working time arrangements, enterprises operating internationally and / or with continuous operations that prevent server shutdowns. The author points out that the exercise of the right to disconnect cannot be focused on technical and organizational solutions, but requires that the problem of workload and time management be solved in accordance with the right to disconnect.
  • Condemned to a precancerous situation: the situation of young people in Poland
The transformations in the world of work, caused by globalization and technological innovations, constitute a huge challenge for the realization of the right to decent work. Decent work is a "luxury" for a growing number of employees. This is especially true of young people, who are most at risk of precarious employment. This is due to the fact that young people experience two kinds of difficulties in terms of employment: getting a job after leaving school and accessing decent employment. The article focuses on regulations addressed to young people and aims to assess how these regulations affect the situation of young people in the labor market in Poland. In the above scope, the article has in mind solutions dedicated to young people, based on the justification of the transition from education to employment, job creation and preventing youth unemployment, including internships, graduate apprenticeships and training. The author focuses on showing how the indicated instruments affect young people's access to employment that guarantees decent working conditions and the implementation of basic employee rights resulting from national and national legal regulations.

  • The subject of the issue
    • Technical rescue. Methods of freeing injured people from passenger cars with the use of hydraulic rescue devices (7)
Over the last few years, technical rescue in Poland has developed significantly, and the awareness and skills of rescuers are increasing. This is not only because we have better and better equipment at our disposal, but most of all because firefighters exercise more and more. Practical classes, most often with the use of vehicle wrecks, are a huge mine of knowledge and experience. The topic of rescue techniques is therefore extremely important to have a wide range of possibilities, if necessary, to be used in real actions in the event of road incidents. The article describes the necessary techniques to extract people trapped in vehicles that are used in road accidents.
  • In Action
    • Road firefighting (18)
Traffic accidents, collisions and other local hazards, such as leakage of hazardous substances or even fires of means of transport, are typical road incidents where firefighters conduct rescue and firefighting operations. For the time of these activities, they take over the road infrastructure, but after the hazard is eliminated, it returns to its proper owners or managers. How does it work in practice, who is responsible for what and what does it mean for the firefighters themselves?
    • Fire extinguisher cloth in fire protection (28)
The rushing technological development, increasingly dense spatial development and commonly occurring materials of artificial origin have a direct impact on the intensification of fire hazards. Fire safety more and more often depends on the quick elimination of the resulting threat. The topics of dynamic changes in the security space are discussed many times during symposia and conferences, incl. Scientific and Training Conference in Spała or the International Conference "Internal Fires".
    • Rescue actions during incidents in illegal drug laboratories (38)
In the modern world, the association of the word "drug" is unambiguous, and the fact that the law strictly regulates all aspects related to it, i.e. their production for the needs of the "street consumer" or, in other words, for " entertainment use "- is carried out illegally and out of any control, and certainly one that could be described as quality control or linking the described processes with production safety. Thus, the place of their production, i.e. the laboratory, takes on a completely different meaning than the one that functions in our imagination.

  • The complexity of the social economy as a socio-economic phenomenon
The author presents the complexity of the system of today's social economy - its definitions, reference points, role in social and economic development. It presents an overview of selected approaches to the social economy, including definitions, incl. specific to Anglo-Saxon and continental traditions. It discusses the context in which it emerged and developed as a phenomenon in the sphere of public policy and the economic sphere. Analyzes the dynamics of the development of the social economy in Poland, including institutional conditions and selected mechanisms of public management. He emphasizes that top-down initiatives - including those at the level of the central government and at the level of the EU institutions - are a key element that gives the phenomenon of the social economy dynamics in creating forms of its activity (in view of the weakness of endogenous factors). The state and local governments place it at the center of their strategies in many public policies.
  • Social economy entities in public policy
The author devotes his text to the issues of public policy and the role of social economy entities (PES) in it. It argues in favor of the thesis that social economy entities are an important component of what can be defined as the policy capacity of the public policy system in a given country . They bring significant resources to it - intellectual, organizational, executive [financial], etc. The larger they are, the more efficient the entire system is, i.e. the ability to identify key public problems and program their solutions, implement these solutions, and the various - in terms of form - to evaluate the results of the activities carried out in public policies. It indicates that it is in the interest of the state and society to strengthen the PES sector.

  • Threat to existence
Biodiversity is the most complex and important feature of our planet without which life would not exist as it is. Over the decades of the last century, the definition of this term has taken various forms. As early as the 1960s, the term "biodiversity" was first used by the American biologist and conservationist Raymond F. Dasmann. However, it was not until twenty years later that the term found broader use.
  • Biodiversity has many names
You may be asking yourself: what is "biodiversity"? And there is no clear answer to them. It can be presented by a lush, lively meadow, but also by what is on the plates as part of everyday food. It can be weeds or animals, as well as currently unfashionable plants, the old varieties cultivating genetic diversity also have a lot in common with biodiversity.
  • Plants also have their language
The stethoscope, existing since 1816, enables the examination of human health. Thanks to him, the doctor can hear, among others heart rhythm, lung noise and possibly detect the onset of the disease. In recent years, prof. Hazem M. Kalaji from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, directed research in the field of photosynthesis towards the assessment of plant health in a quick and non-invasive way using the so-called fluorimeter . It is a stethoscope-like instrument that only measures the signals from the photosystem II (PSII), which he called "the heart of plants".
  • Counteracting climate change and geopolitics
The Russian invasion of Ukraine makes it necessary to revise the current energy policy in Europe. How can the previously set climate goals be maintained in the new reality? Participants of the debates of the International Climate Summit TOGETAIR 2022, which took place at the University of Warsaw Library, spent 3 days looking for answers to questions how to build and on what to base an independent and competitive energy policy of the European Union and how to build a better climate future.
