• Illumination of monuments in Krakow on the example of the church of Saint Józef in Podgórze
The first electric street lighting in Krakow appeared at the end of the 19th century in the form of arc lamps. It covered the area of the Main Square. As the technology evolved, the types of lighting changed, and the relatively low cost of power generation caused lanterns to appear throughout the city. Artificial light initially had only a utilitarian function, with time it began to be used also for aesthetic purposes, for example, highlighting the city's particularly important objects. Most often, architectural monuments of interest are emphasized in this way. In Krakow, there are 1211 objects and areas entered in the register of monuments (as of February 2018), as well as over 6000 objects entered in the municipal register of monuments. These are churches, monastery complexes, cemeteries, urban arrangements, as well as tenements [1, 5]. Light points were installed around most of them, the original purpose of which was to enhance architectural values. Today, however, it is believed that they are one of the components of the phenomenon of light pollution of Krakow.
  • Nowa Huta - an architectural portrait of the city of the second half of the 20th century
Nowa Huta has been part of Krakow since 1951. The unique architecture and urban planning of this space is a review of styles and trends in the design of cities in the second half of the 20th century. You can already experience them in the heart of Nowa Huta, i.e. on the Central Square, where socialist realism, modernism and postmodernism are represented. Undoubtedly, this diversity is one of the many reasons for entering the Nowa Huta center in the register of monuments in 2004 and the creation of a branch of the Historical Museum of Krakow dedicated to Nowa Huta a year later. However, the perspective of the Square is just the beginning of the journey through the phenomenon of Nowa Huta architecture. The study contains analyzes and assessments of Nowa Huta building and architectural heritage in terms of cultural identity. The publication was created as part of the "Nowa Huta Architectural Portrait of the City" project, which is organized by the Heritage and Identity Workshops of Nowa Huta at the Culture Center of C. K. Norwid.

  • What part of the planet should we protect?
We live in special times, when the human population is still growing dynamically, the economic growth affects an increasing number of the world's population. We can determine the time in which we lived as the Great Acceleration. Civilization changes are a reason for pride and satisfaction for many. However, we know how high a price we can pay for the constantly growing pressure on energy, soil, water, forests and animals. We also observe Great Acceleration in relation to the loss of biodiversity on Earth. There is a great extinction on Earth, called the sixth, but first caused by one of the living species. A million plant and animal species are threatened with extinction. Thousands of them may disappear in the next decades [4]. For some time there has been another factor contributing to the extinction of species - climate change. The climate and environmental crisis will affect us all the more the less effectively we protect biodiversity.
  • Networking for eco-innovation growth
According to the Eurostat ranking, in terms of the innovation indicator in Europe, Poland ranks 25th. It is related to, among others with a small number of foreign doctoral students studying at Polish universities, low expenditure on research and development from public money, unsatisfactory cooperation on the issue of innovative solutions in small and medium-sized enterprises. Similarly, in the case of eco-innovation in 2017, Poland took 3rd place from the end, only Cyprus and Bulgaria were behind us. Therefore, it is necessary to use an ecosystem that will support the development of innovation under the so-called knowledge triangle, as well as eco-innovation due to the growing importance of environmental policy in the EU.
