• Exclusion of a plot of land from a landscape park
Does the owner of a plot of land in a landscape park, which, prior to the park's establishment, obtained a land development and development decision providing for the construction of a residential building, have a claim to exclude his plot from the park's boundaries, if the legal regime of the landscape park excludes such construction?
  • A hole in the sky
My neighbor, a dazzling brunette, does not hide that she loves the sun and, like many women, likes to be tanned. So when the last snows come down from the mountains, they are exposed to the sun. For health and beauty. He does it with impunity in early spring. It can get worse later. What to do, how to strongly charm freons - traditionally an ozone hole appears in the sky. As always dangerous and as always awakening the vigilance of scientists and the imagination of the media.
  • Deforestation and humanity's chances of survival
Deforestation is the number one major cause of extinction in species. In the latest reports from world institutions, the largest research centers, the postulate to stop deforestation appears as one of the key actions necessary to deal with the climate and environmental crisis. Two researchers from Chile and the United Kingdom, using computer models, estimated that if the current pace of deforestation continues, our civilization has two to four decades until its final collapse. Numerical simulations indicated a less than 10% chance that we would survive the catastrophe. There is little hope of avoiding the worst-case scenario by implementing a grand plan to reforest the planet.
  • European olive, a symbol of beauty and longevity of the Mediterranean region
The tree in the air is clean and bright, and neither you, nor us, nor the olive itself knows why its beauty touches the depths of our hearts. Narrow leaves, slender twigs, a crooked trunk, torn panicles, little fruit, and behold, an ineffable deity shines through in its pallor!
  • The judgment of the Court of 3 September 2020 on the violation of procedures accompanying the shipment of waste and by-products between the countries of the European Union, C-21/19, C-22/19, C-23/19
3 within the meaning of Art. 10 of Regulation No 1069/2009 and other materials classified as non-hazardous waste within the meaning of Regulation No 1013/2006. The proportion of animal by-products in the mixture is irrelevant in this respect. Fact and law The Dutch Public Prosecutor's Office accuses Kamstra Recykling and several employees of that company of having transferred certain substances, including mixtures of waste, from the Netherlands to Germany in the period June 2011 - June 2012 without notification or authorization from the competent administrative authorities. The mixtures were destined for a biogas plant operating in Germany. At least one of the mixtures consisted of animal by-products.
  • Modesty
Reducing consumption is considered to be one of the conditions for achieving environmental improvement. It can be realized in several ways. First of all, it is about extending the life of used things. Critics of this approach have pointed out that each new generation of products embodies a better technique and may consequently be less troublesome for the environment, but this is an opinion not confirmed by empirical research. Reducing pressure on the environment is also about mending things, not throwing them away if they break. And above all, it requires the ability to manage without non-essential products. The above postulates seem quite obvious, yet they are by no means popular.
  • Hydrogen - the fuel of the near future - Polish hydrogen strategy until 2030 with a perspective until 2040
To prepare the article, I used the materials presented in the governmental study Polish hydrogen strategy until 2030 with a perspective until 2040. The document defines the goals and actions for building a low-emission hydrogen economy, relating to the three sectors of hydrogen use - energy, transport and industry, as well as to its production, distribution and the necessary legal changes and financing. Modern hydrogen technologies, due to their features and numerous connections with various industries, can be a key factor in maintaining the competitiveness of the Polish economy. The European Commission also intends that hydrogen technologies, by enabling intelligent sectoral integration, will constitute one of the pillars of the transformation of the European energy market.
  • The use and protection of the land surface in Poland in the light of statistical data
Chapter II of the Yearbook of Environmental Protection discusses the issues of "Use and protection of the land surface". Until 2016, this chapter was more extensive, it included soils and minerals, which are still the subject of more modest statistical summaries.
  • Śniegi Świdnik in the two winter half-years of 2012/2013 and 2019/2020. The results of the research in the light of the field experiment
The field research in winter 2013 concerned: snow cover thickness, retention, snowiness and snow water coefficient (t average , winters ≅ minus 2.0oC ). The test results are presented in the table. The total thickness of the snow layer was 6.77 dm . Shelf life - 127 days. The snowiness coefficients for this winter were estimated at 44.6%, and for the year> 17%. Snow water content in the range of 16.5 - 20.92 dag / dm3 (i.e. 18.05 - 22.89%). The total water content was 91.4 dag / dm3 (ie 91.4 mm of precipitation). In winter 2020 snow was evaluated at most ≅ 1 dm , ie. ~ 18.38 mm ( TSR . Winter> 3.0 C). This winter's snow index accounted for 13% of the total mass of total precipitation, and only 2.58% in relation to the year. To sum up: the snow conditions in the two tested winters are assessed as exceptionally contrasting.
  • Methodological basis for the determination of heavily modified and artificial river water bodies in Poland
The article presents a comparison of the methodologies of the procedure for the determination of heavily modified and artificial water bodies used in Poland in the 2nd and 3rd planning cycles for river waters. The basic change concerned the replacement of the multi-indicator assessment used previously in the hydromorphology analysis of watercourses with one indicator - the Hydromorphological River Index. In addition, an additional prequalification step (screening) was introduced into the procedure and the steps for preliminary and final designation were verified.
  • Home sewage treatment plants - where to start?
Water and sewage management is one of the main factors influencing the condition of the natural environment, in particular the pollution of groundwater and surface waters. Construction of home sewage treatment plants allows for the discharge and treatment of sewage in rural areas, especially in scattered buildings, which enables the economic development of these areas, improves the living conditions of users and improves water quality. During 20 years, Poland has experienced a dynamic development of this infrastructure, while the length of the sewage network and the number of sewage treatment plants have grown at a slower pace.
