- Safety of blasting works in mining plants - part 1
The article deals with the issues of safety of blasting works and the use of explosives intended for civil use. It contains basic information on methods of detonation initiation, consumption of blasting agents in mining plants and describes selected accidents and dangerous events related to blasting agents, including the unauthorized use of explosives.
- Organization and success of the Mining and Metallurgical Rescue Unit at KGHM Polska Miedź
In 1997, KGHM Polska Miedź established a mining and metallurgical rescue unit (JRGH) on the basis of a district mine rescue station and on-site fire brigades. The scope of its activities includes mining, chemical, ecological, technical and fire rescue. It is a rescue protection for all plants / branches included in the KGHM Polska Miedź Group. The JRGH structure consists of 3 departments: I - Fire Department at the Głogów Copper Smelter, II - Fire Department at the Lubin Coal Plant (with a branch at the Legnica Copper Smelter), and III - Mining Rescue Service (GPR) in Sobin. The USAR team also created three specialist ambulances: for work in vertical and steep workings, for underwater works, and a medical support service. Equipped with modern, specialized equipment and numerous rescue operations (15 in 2019), rescuers have proved their professionalism and determination. In addition, they perform a wide range of preventive works, help during construction disasters or natural disasters in Poland and abroad (including in Armenia and Turkey). Using their knowledge, skills and experience, despite strong competition, they also occupy leading positions in the International Mine Rescue Competition.

The article presents the methodology and benefits of using modern technologies for designing and conducting drilling and blasting works in opencast mines. The use of synergies of existing technologies offered by various manufacturers, such as the O-Pitblast optimization and blasting program or the Hole Navigation System - an automation system for drilling and drones, allows not only to improve the efficiency of drilling and blasting works, but also also to increase work safety.
