  • Latent infection with tuberculosis in Polish prison service officers
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by acid-resistant mycobacteria from the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex group. The disease spreads when people with pulmonary tuberculosis excrete bacteria by coughing, sneezing, laughing or talking. Prisons, which are often referred to as tuberculosis reservoirs, pose a great risk to their employees. Longer working hours in prison and penitentiary facilities favors latent contamination among prison staff. So far, few studies have been published on the issue of latent infection with mycobacterium tuberculosis among employees of prisons.
  • What is job crafting? Review of theoretical concepts concerning work shaping
In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in interest in positive phenomena in the psychology of work. One of them is employee-initiated behavior aimed at transforming working conditions in order to increase job satisfaction and match it to needs and abilities. These behaviors are called job crafting . With the development of research on this issue, its different theoretical concepts and definitions were created and then evolved. The aim of this study was to systematize them and conduct a critical analysis. Analyzed 5 different theoretical models shaping work: Wrześniewski an Dutton, Tims and Bakker, Zhang and Parker, Bindl and al . and Kooij and al . The publication presents the differences between these approaches as well as the strengths and critical points of each of them.
  • The impact of physical activity on cognitive performance
Along with the progressing aging of the society, an increase in the percentage of people whose cognitive functioning is reduced. Counteracting this process is a challenge today and requires the development of lifestyle recommendations that will allow to stop or delay the process of cognitive decline. Regular physical activity has a positive effect on health and cognitive performance, especially on one of the types of cognitive functions - executive functions. Data show that exercise - both aerobic and strength exercises, and their combination - can benefit cognitive performance. Several biological mechanisms underlie the effectiveness of physical exercise: changes at the cellular level, protein release, increased blood flow through the brain, increased levels of neurotransmitters, and the process of neurogenesis . The aim of this article is to analyze the latest research taking into account the relationship between physical activity and cognitive performance, conducted in 2015–2020. The review of the research considered the effect of physical activity, without combining physical and cognitive training, on cognitive performance in a group of healthy adults and the elderly. Studies that defined physical activity as playing sports or increasing daily activity to reduce the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle were analyzed. The results of the review of the available data indicate that the researchers found a positive effect of increasing physical activity on cognitive performance, mainly executive functions (including working memory), but also attention and memory processes. Only a few works do not contain significant differences in this respect. However, the analysis of the research shows the lack of uniform methods of assessing the intensity of physical activity, as well as the measurement of cognitive performance. There is a need for further research in this area in order to check the long-term effects. Further research should be used to develop the most effective intervention techniques and preventive recommendations for maintaining cognitive performance at a good level. These studies should be extended to the control of variables that affect the acquisition of cognitive skills and cognitive efficiency that appear over the course of the interventions.
